We are on a mission to advance matters related to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), aspects that are essential and foundational to advancing knowledge in science and engineering. Our research is focused on light matter interactions at the nanoscale and energy conversion, encompassing quantum nanophotonics, metasurfaces, two-dimensional and layered materials, solar photovoltaics and photoelectrochemical energy conversion.
Professor Harry Atwater has been awarded the 2021 Von Hippel Award. The Von Hippel Award, the Materials Research Society’s highest honor, recognizes those qualities most prized by materials scientists and engineers—brilliance and originality of intellect, combined with vision that transcends the boundaries of conventional scientific disciplines.
Our recent work on electro-optic polarization conversion with black phosphorus based van der Waals heterostructures is out now in Science (2021). Associated Caltech press release can be found here.
