Ryan is a Materials Science Ph.D. student who joined the Atwater Group in the spring of 2022. He received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from UT Austin. His research at Caltech focuses on hybrid electrochemical/catalytic systems design for the generation of high-pressure hydrogen. In his free time, Ryan enjoys hiking, weightlifting, and longboarding.

Nimisha is a PhD student in Applied Physics, and joined the Atwater group in Fall 2022. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BS in Physics, where she worked in the Markert lab on integrated NMR probes. Outside of the lab, Nimisha enjoys reading fiction, playing the piano, embroidery, and swimming.

Julie is a PhD student in Applied Physics who joined the Atwater group in September 2022. She graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Engineering Physics from the University of British Columbia, where her research focused on inverse design methods for photonics.  Academic interests aside, Julie enjoys karate, piano, singing, and reading/writing fiction.

Catherine is an Applied Physics PhD student who joined the Atwater group in 2021. Prior to this, she graduated from Hamilton College with a BA in physics and a minor in computer science. Outside of the lab she enjoys hiking, photography, and playing D&D.

John graduated from UC Santa Barbara with his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering. He joined the Atwater group in Fall 2020.

Lily is a Materials Science graduate student and joined the Atwater group in Fall 2020. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 2020 with a BS in Materials Science and Engineering. Napping is a favorite pastime.

Rachel Tham graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, studying Materials Science and Engineering. In 2020 she was a WAVE student, working on implementing TMDCs in luminescent solar concentrators, and is mentored by David Needell. She joins the group as a graduate student in Fall 2021.
